Having done an analysis on Monarch of the Glen we are going to look at how to add depth to your analysis of Representation. I want you to go through all these images from the clip we looked at. Take each one in turn and
1 describe what you can see in terms of mise-en-scene and shot type (very brief) then say what they could suggest in terms of Representation.
When you talk about Rep you should be looking ot use general terms - eg this might suggest that young people are vulnerable / lazy / selfish/ unpredictable. Remember each image might suggest more than one message about young people.

This task should take you about 40 mins to an hour - it is more a thinking exercise than about writing huge amounts but is very important you do it before next week.

Work for 22/10/09

Here is the work for this week. We have been making good progress with analysing TV Drama - this work is a chance for you to take that further. I am not sure what happened to you all on Wednesday - I couldn't make it as I had to attend a meeting - but I spent a lot of time putting together worksheets and bringing them over which I wanted you to do instead of the lesson. Those of you that have done them have done a really good job and should now have a good idea about editing. Your work for this week is to analyse the clip that follows. analyse the Camerawork editing sound and mise-en-scene and how those contribute to representations of women. There is loads to talk about in this clip and i have annotated the first part of it on youtube to give you some help starting. You can upload your work as a comment on to this blog or bring it with you on paper for our first lesson back (after your week holiday). if you click on the image itself it will take you to Youtube - better to do this as the whole image isn't showing up in the embedded version. If you are want some more help with this go to my post here where I have put a set of resources which you will also find useful.
